La
Trina La Schelle Rice resides in Brooklyn,
New York, but is a native of Houston,
Texas. She received her Bachelor of
Fine Arts in Theatre from Sam Houston
State
University.
Stage theatre has been her forte'
for the past 20 years. As a residential
actor
at Houston's
Encore Theatre, she has appeared in
over 35 productions. Just
a
few of them include Fences as Rose,
Romeo and Juliet as Nurse, The Evers
Boys
as Nurse Evers, To Be Young Gifted
and Black as Lorraine Hansberry, Shout
Hallelujah as Sister Mouth, The Colored
Museum as Miss Pat, Medea, and Wig
#2,
Samson and Delilah as Delilah, Women
in Prison as Cassie, and Three Blind
Mice
as
Ms. Cheese. Her directing credits
include: For Colored Girls Who Consider
Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf,
Antigone, and Reunion in Bartersville.
When
asked
the question, "How do you do
it?"
she makes reference to her idol: GOD,
but recognizes her favorites: Alfre
Woodard, John Ritter,Carol Burnett,
and William
Shakespeare. La Diva as she is often
called in the theatre arena is currently
pursuing Broadway and hopes to someday
have her very own TV variety show
like
her idol Carol Burnett.
