Larry
Don Johnson is a native Houstonian
and long time local thespian. He was
one
of the organizers of Urban Theater,
a theater group that brought legitimate
professional quality black theater
to Houston in the 70’s. He shared
the spotlight back
then with actors such as Loretta Devine
and Charles Robinson. Urban Theater
staged
several memorable plays without the
luxury of a permanent home structure.
Larry
has been among the main stable of
Ensemble Theater actors throughout
the
years.
He was last seen on the Ensemble stage
in the production of A Lesson Before
Dying,
and before that in a lead role in
August Wilson’s Jitney. Larry
recently toured
as
a member of the I’m Ready productions’
hit stage play “Men Cry in the
Dark.” He
performed
in several cities in a featured role
as an understudy to Richard Roundtree.
Larry
is employed at KTSU and has been both
a radio and TV news anchor. Besides
theater his other hobbies are art
and photography.
